About

Recipes Collected is a collection of from-scratch home recipes: yeast breads and quick breads, breakfasts, soups, main dishes and sides, desserts and drinks, along with homemade pantry staples such as vanilla extract, brown sugar, pumpkin puree and dressing mixes, and a handful of simple household DIY formulas.

Every recipe is laid out the same way: a short description of what the dish is and how it works, a complete ingredient list, numbered steps, and a printable recipe card. Where a recipe is adapted from a cookbook, a magazine or a package label, the source is credited in the recipe notes.

Who looks after the recipes

Recipes Collected is an independent site, not part of a food brand or a publisher. It is maintained by one editor, who writes here as Robin Ashby and is responsible for every recipe on it: choosing what to add, revising older recipes and making corrections.

The site first ran as a home-cooking blog in the early 2010s. The recipes kept from those years have been rewritten from the ground up rather than copied, and new recipes are added on a regular schedule.

How recipes and adaptations are checked

Every recipe goes through the same checks before it is published, whether it is new, rewritten from the original blog, or adapted from a vintage cookbook or a package label:

  • Quantities, pan sizes, oven temperatures, cooking times and yields are compared with several widely published versions of the same dish, and anything outside the usual range is corrected.
  • The ingredient list and the method are checked against each other, so every ingredient is used and every amount in the steps matches the list.
  • Food safety follows the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service and the National Center for Home Food Preservation: 165°F for poultry, 160°F for ground meat and egg dishes, 145°F for fish, and their guidance on cooling, storing, fermenting and canning.
  • Variations such as dairy-free, gluten-free, egg-free or lower-sugar versions use well-established swaps, and the notes name the substitute and say what changes in the result.

Mistakes still get through. If an amount, a time or a step looks wrong, or a recipe did not turn out the way it is described, please say so through the contact page. Recipes are corrected when an error is confirmed.

The photos of finished dishes are AI-generated illustrations of each recipe, not photographs of a particular batch.

The easiest way to browse is the recipe index, which lists everything by category.
